2007 AMSL Men's Team - Lethbridge FC
Historical overview (taken from the Alberta Soccer Association)
The league was originally organized with two goals in mind: to develop the senior amateur teams in Alberta so as to allow them to compete and succeed at the highest levels, and to facilitate the development of Alberta's young players to a point beyond that provided by the local senior leagues in the 1980s. There is plenty of evidence to show that the AMSL has succeeded both ways, thus affirming the vision of the founders of the league.
It is worth noting that the late Edmonton Drillers and Aviators as well as the Calgary Storm and Mustangs drew many of their players directly from the AMSL, although most have returned to the league for various reasons. The AMSL remains the primary resource for player talent in Alberta for future Edmonton and Calgary USL teams, both male and female.
The AMSL is governed by an Executive Committee, made up of AMSL Commissioner Pro Tem Fred Kern of Calgary, long-time Calgary men's assistant commissioner Bill Malone, and the following new appointees: Calgary women's assistant commissioner Lynda Davies; Edmonton men's assistant commissioner Steve Cunningham; Edmonton women's assistant commissioner Maureen Finley; Lethbridge assistant commissioner Maria Mantello; and Red Deer assistant commissioner Ellen Suter. As usual, the members of the Executive Committee contribute a great deal of experience as players, managers and administrators.
The AMSL is organized and operated by Alberta Soccer in conjunction with its largest senior Districts. The constituent leagues include Calgary United Soccer, Calgary Women's Soccer, Edmonton & District Soccer, Lethbridge Soccer and Red Deer City Soccer.
